It is not clear when talking to Novell what number of of their eDirectory installations are in reality new shoppers and not just extra income to the latest Novell client base.

just a few years lower back Novell took a major misstep after they proposed a brand new true-level .dir area for the web. The proposed .dir domain turned into a so-referred to as chartered domain and would have required .dir candidates to be thoroughly compliant with LDAP 2000, an LDAP conformance test subsidized by DIF. Novell claimed that organising the .dir area became important since it would assure the type of sites that would use it. The proposed area immediately met with group resistance and turned into directly withdrawn. "Why is all and sundry looking to ICANN to rubber-stamp their enterprise fashions?" said Rick Wesson, CEO of Alice's Registry, in Santa Cruz, Calif., a consultancy for ICANN-accredited registrars. "Novell wants to create a LDAP (lightweight directory entry Protocol) root, but it surely does not need a TLD to try this. it might construct the same infrastructure under the current DNS domains."

Is Novell keen on LDAP?Novell has been energetic with two emerging IETF standards organizations. These efforts will little question come to be in future Novell net, operating equipment, and directory products.

  • SAML (protection assertion Markup Language) 1.0 allows purposes to share authentication guidance. In July, Novell participated in a SAML Interoperability forum as a part of the Burton group. although, the one signal-on solution continues to be a piece-in-growth.
  • The equal group OASIS (company for the advancement of Structured suggestions standards) that oversees SAML also is creating the UDDI (everyday Description, Discovery and Integration) specification. UDDI includes a protocol for describing web services and queries about organizations/products. Novell sponsored engineers authored a draft schema to place UDDI counsel in an LDAP listing.
  • Liberty Alliance is making a "federated" identification authentication protocol, known as "a circle of have confidence", that allows clients to transparently navigate between affiliated organizations. There are numerous protection access considerations nevertheless to be decided before this turns into reality. It is not clear what abilities this schema has over existing certification techniques, like PKI.
  • Novell builders are working on the next liberate of Netware code named "Nakoma." it's going to encompass greater DirXML guide for tighter integration between NetWare, Novell Portal features, and legacy corporate directories that require directory-primarily based identity and entry capabilities. present projected availability is summer time 2003.

Some enhancements which are part of "task fate" the normal Novell eDirectory and listing enhancement effort encompass:

  • UDDI server due by year-conclusion.
  • the future edition of eDirectory can be extra dynamic with more desirable rules-primarily based "choice-making" about individuals, and listing statistics.
  • "Saturn" is a Novell effort to make eDirectory and iChain (identity-driven web access) suitable with the liberty Alliance specification. "Saturn" reportedly should be completed through 12 months-end.
  • Dynamic identification services and entry will be granted in accordance with the software.
  • In conclusion, Novell has been working tough to position itself in the forefront of the LDAP building neighborhood. Novell has leveraged its expertise with X.500 and NDS to create an impressive set of equipment using LDAP and the NDS architecture. if you are involved in massive-scale identity administration applications and also you have already got some familiarity with the Novell environment, eDirectory could be simply the toolkit you need to construct your application.

Novell releases a new UDDI server | killexams.com Real Questions and Pass4sure dumps

Novell announced the provision to developers of a new frequent Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) server that adds at ease id management to the UDDI general, bolstering the safety and simplifying the management of net services registries.

Novell Nsure UDDI Server is based on Novell’s market-main eDirectory application and is the primary deliverable of the company’s destiny roadmap for eDirectory.

due to the fact that its inception in 2000, adoption of the UDDI average has been confined, partly as a result of initial web capabilities deployments have been especially small, however additionally because the ordinary lacks satisfactory provisions to ensure the protection and management of registered functions. With the delivery of a UDDI server in response to eDirectory, Novell is attacking these boundaries head on.

Angie Anderson, Novell vice chairman of identification capabilities referred to: “Novell eDirectory is the groundwork for relaxed identification management interior and out of doors the business, so it’s a herbal development to prolong these capabilities to web services deployments, peculiarly as a part of a key building block like UDDI. Equally critical, those users, their entry rights, and the registered net capabilities may also be without difficulty managed with eDirectory equipment like Novell iManager, which can be widely wide-spread to most community directors.

“The price proposition for Novell Nsure UDDI Server, according to eDirectory, is primary,” Anderson noted. “whether or not they’ve deployed internet functions yet or no longer, agencies are already laying the infrastructure if you want to guide future internet functions adoption. So why no longer construct that infrastructure on probably the most scalable, respectable and comfortable expertise available?”

Novell Nsure UDDI Server should be accessible December 17 at no cost download. For greater advice, go to developer.novell.com/uddi.

EUC with HCI: Why It Matters

You are responsible for managing 15,000 user accounts and 20,000 computers in your company. It is 9 a.m. on Monday. Do you know where your users' computers are? If you are working for a typical company, almost certainly you do not. "British Telecom recently audited their IT assets and found that they had 20,000 more computers than they thought," says Dave Bingham, Consulting Director, Fujitsu Consulting UK. Now that is a serious systems management problem!

Many companies are sinking under the weight of their existing legacy network identity, access control, and provisioning systems. Some of the warning signs that you might have a problem:

  • Users cannot remember all their passwords because each application requires its own authentication
  • Directory information is out of date, or incomplete
  • Ex-employees still have access to local/remote network services
  • It takes on average, 22 steps to create a new employee e-mail address
  • Little or no auditing of accounts and privileges, including cross application comparisons to get a true sense of user actions
  • Redundant administration points and no pre-established delegation policies
  • Proprietary access, authentication, and provisioning APIs for each application
  • As large and small companies alike struggle to control IT assets and costs, global network identity management systems are looking increasingly attractive. The Forrester Group predicts most Fortune 100 companies will be implementing these systems to reduce TCO (total cost of ownership), eliminate manual/legacy systems, and streamline business processes.

What do Novell, identity management and LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) have to do with any of this? Is this the same moribund company known for the mature NetWare, NDS (Novell Directory Service), and GroupWise product lines? Yes, a revitalized Novell is aggressively pursuing the network identity management and directory services market with a new generation of LDAP-based products and technologies. By building on Novell's traditional strengths in directory management and de-coupling these products from their flagship NDS NOS product, it is hoping to compete directly with iPlanet, Oblix, Critical Path, Microsoft, and other identity management vendors. The next few years will be a battleground for network identity vendors and consultants as they struggle to establish themselves in this new marketplace. Let us take a more in depth look at Novell's LDAP implementation and directory service products to see why you should be seriously considering them if you need an enterprise scale LDAP system.

Why Novell and LDAP?Novell realized it needed an open standard for its front-end application software. LDAP was the obvious choice because Novell had historically based both the NetWare and NDS systems on the X.500 protocol and LDAP was originally designed as the X.500 front end. In March 1999, Novell released a copy of open source LDAP as part of its SDK (software developer's kit) indicating its full support for the LDAP standard. At the time Kurt Zeilenga, chief architect of the OpenLDAP Project, noted, "Global adoption of technologies requires that developers have access to open and reusable code. We are pleased that Novell has chosen to use OpenLDAP software and has made its changes available to the community so all may benefit. We look forward to working with Novell in furthering open source LDAP software." It clearly had the full support of the developer community.

Although LDAP has been around as a standard protocol since 1995 until recently it has been a strictly back-office enterprise network service. Previously, the only open standard for directories was X.500, introduced in 1988. Since X.500 was OSI model based, LDAP was designed to serve as a translation protocol between the TCP/IP and OSI models. Because it is the most open and flexible of all the network services protocols, the network ID management community has embraced it as the core technology to connect user and machine identity information together into one seamless whole. It is now the de facto standard for most major identity management services applications. Openwave and iPlanet both use LDAP as the underlying address directory technology for enterprise e-mail services products. LDAP is an established, robust, scalable open directory standard -- an extremely attractive solution.

Novell NDS and LDAPHow has that changed Novell's products? First, let us look at the details of how the NDS system has fully incorporated LDAP. NDS 8 provides robust LDAP support by allowing access directly to a NDS data store. This affords the best of both worlds -- open standards for directory access while leveraging Novell's security strengths such as strong authentication and server-server replication. This enhanced support includes:

  • LDAP Services are installed by default, which means that LDAP clients can transparently access NDS objects using SSL without requiring any additional client software.
  • Ability to write directly to LDAP schema. To change an LDAP-NDS mapping, go to the ConsoleOne (Novell's Java-based server/workstation management software) screen and select LDAP Group Object. Right click this object and select Properties. You can then go to the Attribute map or Class Map tab to add/modify/delete the appropriate object.
  • Full auxiliary class support, which means if an NDS or LDAP object is a member of multiple object classes, it inherits the attributes of all these object classes. Note there are three default auxiliary classes in NDS.
  • eDirectory - Novell's Directory Service ProducteDirectory, which evolved from NDS, is a directory service that is scalable, extensible, and high performance. In fact, Novell has publicly demonstrated that eDirectory can manage more than a billion objects in a single tree. This capability far exceeds what most enterprise networks or e-businesses will ever require. Some of eDirectory's major components like global printing services are incorporated into NetWare 6.

FeaturesSome of eDirectory's new or enhanced features included in version 8.7 - codenamed "Falcon" are:

  • Full support on multiple platforms, Netware, Windows NT/2000, and UNIX flavors (Linux, AIX, and Solaris). This is great news for multi-platform enterprises.
  • eDirectory has full support for replication (multiple distributed copies of the directory in case of failover) and portioning (splitting directory logically to support decentralized administration and improved network performance). This is especially critical in a 7x24, five 9s, mission critical deployments.
  • Full Support of LDAP over SSL/TLS (Secure Socket Layer & Transport Layer Security protocols). This feature is very important in the web-based services arena.
  • Supports SNMP monitoring. Both directory monitoring and management consoles are available. ConsoleOne is a Java-based for servers/workstations, and iMonitor is a web-based monitoring and diagnostics for all company eDirectories.
  • IManager is a web-based directory manager that performs operations on directory objects, including access, creation, directory portioning, and replication.
  • It includes an import/export utility using LDAP Directory Interchange Format (LDIF) for simplified ports and integration with legacy systems. It can be executed from either the command line or the ConsoleOne or iManager products.
  • Directory StructureHere is a brief overview of the Novell directory structure from top to bottom. Novell calls its directories "container objects."

  • TREE (once called [ROOT]) is the top of the directory hierarchy and contains all objects in the directory. Primarily used to grant or deny global rights.
  • ORGANIZATION contains all objects for an organization or enterprise. This includes the Administrator user. A COUNTRY object can also be created at this level for more refinement.
  • ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT (OU) - is a further subdivision of an organization structure (such as divisions, geographical, etc). Users are created at this level.
  • DOMAIN (DNS Domains) - allows eDirectory interaction with DNS for location of services.
  • DirXMLDir XML provides bi-directional and Meta-directory capabilities between e-Directory and other enterprise and legacy systems. The systems communicate by directly processing XML documents. DirXML runs on a variety of platforms -- Linux, NetWare, Solaris, and Windows NT/2000, but requires eDirectory 8.5 or later. Currently available DirXML drivers include:

  • LDAP Directories - IPlanet/Netscape Directory Server, Critical Path InJoin Directory, IBM SecureWay
  • Electronic Messaging - Groupwise, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange
  • Enterprise Applications - Peoplesoft, IBM WebSphere MQ, Oracle, IBM DB2, and Sybase
  • Operating System Domains - NT, Active Directory, NIS
  • Delimited Text - Miscellaneous
  • DirXML ComponentsBetween eDirectory/DirXML there are two different types of data flows.

  • Publisher Channel - Sends data from various systems to eDirectory.
  • Subscriber Channel.- Sends data from eDirectory to various systems.
  • DirXML Driver - Handles the communication between DirXML engine and the application but not the rule processing. This includes receiving the XML document and translating it into a set of commands, which are then sent to the appropriate data store. Note that DirXML 1.1 no longer requires eDirectory and DirXML running on the server allowing remote drivers to be dynamically loaded.
  • DirXML Engine - Translates directory events such as add, modify, or delete to an XML document. Translation involves processing various filters, rules, and style sheets to achieve the desired result.
  • Objects - eDirectory operations involve certain key objects, DirXML-DriverSet, DirXML-Driver, DirXML-Publisher, and DirXML-Subscriber.
  • Filters -- determine which attributes such as name or address will be affected for this particular channel session.
  • Rules Sets
  • Object mapping -- Associates an object in the eDirectory schema with an object in the external application.
  • Matching -- Determines the attributes and values in eDirectory and the corresponding application that must match before creating an association attribute.
  • Create Object -- Specifies the attribute and values that must be in place before a new object or record is created.
  • Placement -- Specifies the location in the application the objects are stored. Multiple rules are typically used.
  • XSLT Style sheets - Define the XLST transformation rules that transforms commands or directory events found in the XML documents.
  • Developer ServicesAdditional services and products Novell offers specifically designed to aid developers include:

  • Customized DirXML Drivers -- Written in either C++ or Java. The Java drivers requires JDK 1.1.7b or later. Developers can use DSTrace facility and DirXML Trace log for debugging.
  • XML Interfaces for C++ - Allows the developer to write messages to DSTrace facility and DirXML Trace log.
  • LDAP Extensions and Control for JNDI (Java Naming and Directory Interface).
  • Test Server for LDAP
  • eDirectory Class Libraries for C and Java - Used to perform operations such as query or add on a LDAP directory. Part of the Novell Developer Kit (NDK), it uses open source code from the OpenLDAP Project.
  • Some CautionsNovell is moving the right direction by porting the package to multiple platforms, but if you really want to have a fully integrated system, you should still be using the other Novell products in conjunction with eDirectory. Although eDirectory has some great features that make it easier to develop enterprise scaled directory services based applications, it is still at heart an NDS based product. It will probably work best for you if you already have a NetWare installation and some familiarity with the Novell approach to network based enterprise services. Tony Neal, IT manager at Marriott International Inc. views Novell LDAP support as "another piece of the protocol puzzle that will tie everything together, with NDS as the real engine underneath". It is not clear when talking to Novell how many of their eDirectory installations are truly new customers and not just additional sales to the existing Novell customer base.

A few years back Novell took a serious misstep when they proposed a new top-level .dir domain for the Internet. The proposed .dir domain was a so-called chartered domain and would have required .dir applicants to be fully compliant with LDAP 2000, an LDAP conformance test sponsored by DIF. Novell claimed that establishing the .dir domain was critical because it would guarantee the type of sites that would use it. The proposed domain immediately met with community resistance and was quickly withdrawn. "Why is everyone looking to ICANN to rubber-stamp their business models?" said Rick Wesson, CEO of Alice's Registry, in Santa Cruz, Calif., a consultancy for ICANN-accredited registrars. "Novell wants to create a LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) root, but it doesn't need a TLD to do that. It can build the same infrastructure under the existing DNS domains."

Is Novell serious about LDAP?Novell has been active with two emerging IETF standards groups. These efforts will no doubt end up in future Novell web, operating system, and directory products.

  • SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) 1.0 allows applications to share authentication information. In July, Novell participated in a SAML Interoperability forum as part of the Burton Group. However, the single sign-on solution remains a work-in-progress.
  • The same group OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards) that oversees SAML also is creating the UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery and Integration) specification. UDDI includes a protocol for describing web services and queries about businesses/products. Novell sponsored engineers authored a draft schema to place UDDI information in an LDAP directory.
  • Liberty Alliance is creating a "federated" identity authentication protocol, called "a circle of trust", that allows users to transparently navigate between affiliated organizations. There are various security access issues still to be determined before this becomes reality. It is not clear what advantage this schema has over existing certification systems, like PKI.
  • Novell developers are working on the next release of Netware code named "Nakoma." It will include enhanced DirXML support for tighter integration between NetWare, Novell Portal Services, and legacy corporate directories that require directory-based identity and access services. Current projected availability is summer 2003.

Some enhancements that are part of "Project Destiny" the overall Novell eDirectory and directory enhancement effort include:

  • UDDI server due by year-end.
  • The future version of eDirectory will be more dynamic with enhanced rules-based "decision-making" about people, and directory data.
  • "Saturn" is a Novell effort to make eDirectory and iChain (identity-driven web access) compatible with the Liberty Alliance specification. "Saturn" reportedly will be completed by year-end.
  • Dynamic Identity services and access will be granted based on the application.
  • In conclusion, Novell has been working hard to position itself in the forefront of the LDAP development community. Novell has leveraged its expertise with X.500 and NDS to create a powerful set of tools using LDAP and the NDS architecture. If you are serious about large-scale identity management applications and you already have some familiarity with the Novell environment, eDirectory might be just the toolkit you need to build your application.

NetWare 6 Server Management | killexams.com real questions and Pass4sure dumps

This chapter is from the book 

    Test Objectives Covered:

iMonitor is Novell's latest anytime, anywhere server monitoring and diagnostic tool. iMonitor is affectionately known as Simon because it is launched at the NetWare 6 server console by using NDSIMON.NLM. iMonitor enables you to monitor and diagnose all servers in your eDirectory tree—regardless of platform. All you have to do is point your Web browser at the server's 8008 port and NetWare 6 takes over from there.

In addition, iMonitor is very secure. It uses the eDirectory ACL to deliver frame tools based on the user's administrative rights. Furthermore, iMonitor redirects HTTP communications to the secure HTTPS port 8009 after you authenticate and log in. And if you're running eDirectory on other supported networking platforms (Windows NT/2000, Solaris, Linux, and Tru64), the default HTTP port is 80 and the secure authentication port is 81 on HTTPS.

    TIP

For secure iMonitor operations on Unix platforms (such as Linux, Solaris, and Tru64), you must create a Key Material object (KMO) in the host server's context.

To run iMonitor, you and your network must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Browser—iMonitor supports Internet Explorer 4 (or later), Netscape 4.06 (or later), and the NetWare browser (available from the server console).

  • Platform—iMonitor can run on any of these networking platforms: NetWare 5 support pack 5 (or later), NetWare 5.1 support pack 1 (for SSL support), Windows NT/2000, Linux, Solaris, and Tru64 Unix.

  • eDirectory—iMonitor requires eDirectory version 8.5 (or above) on the host server. However, you can monitor all versions of eDirectory from NetWare 4.11 (or later), Windows NT/2000, and Solaris/Linux/Unix. NetWare 6 and Support Pack 1 are based on eDirectory version 8.6.

  • To use iMonitor, you must first ensure that the appropriate application is running on your eDirectory server. When using NetWare, NDSIMON.NLM is automatically placed in AUTOEXEC.NCF; therefore, it is launched upon server startup. If you're using Windows NT/2000, the iMonitor service automatically loads upon eDirectory startup. Last, but not least, Unix servers require the following manual command at the server console to activate iMonitor:

    NDSIMONITOR -1

When the iMonitor application is running on your eDirectory server, it's time to access all its great features by using a compatible Web browser. Simply enter the following URL in your browser's address field to access the iMonitor main page:

    http://{server IP address}:8008/nds-summary

For security reasons, iMonitor requires at least basic eDirectory authentication via the [Public] object. When you authenticate as [Public], the browser is redirected to secure HTTPS port 8009. For access to all iMonitor features, you must login as a user with full administrative rights.

    TIP

You can also access the iMonitor main page from a link provided in the Remote Manager navigation frame.

Figure 3.3 shows the iMonitor main page. It consists of three main frames:

  • Navigation frame—This frame sits at the top of Figure 3.3 and provides access to all of iMonitor's feature and nonfeature-related icons.

  • Assistant frame—On the left side of Figure 3.3, the assistant frame lists additional navigation aids that help you drill down on data in the main content frame.

  • Main content frame—On the right side of Figure 3.3 is the main content frame. This is where iMonitor lists all of your server's monitoring and diagnostic statistics as well as additional navigation links.

  • Figure 3.3FIGURE 3.3 NetWare 6 iMonitor main page.

Now let's take a closer look at iMonitor's two most functional frames: navigation and assistant. Simon says, "Study."

    Navigation Frame Tools

The navigation frame is This frame at the top of every iMonitor Web page. This is your launching pad for iMonitor features. In addition, the navigation frame displays your user identity and the name of the server you're currently monitoring.

As you saw in Figure 3.3, the navigation frame buttons are divided into two groups: the left group includes three nonfeature items (help, login/logout, and home NetWare manager) and the right group contains the seven feature-oriented buttons. Here's a brief description of the 10 navigation frame icons:

  • Help—Links you to a context-sensitive online help page regarding the data displayed in the main content frame.

  • Login/Logout—Enables you to authenticate as a different user or to close your iMonitor session. Remember that as long as any Web browser window is open, your iMonitor session remains active.

  • Home NetWare Manager—Links you back to the Remote Manager main page.

  • Agent Summary—In iMonitor, the term agent refers to the DS Agent providing eDirectory services on the host server. The Agent Summary link provides a snapshot view of the health of your eDirectory servers (including synchronization information, agent process status, and the total servers known to your eDirectory database).

  • Agent Configuration—Provides access to the primary eDirectory monitoring and diagnostic tools. The Agent Configuration page varies depending on the version of eDirectory that you're using. The Agent Configuration page (shown in Figure 3.4) provides these eDirectory tools:

  • Figure 3.4FIGURE 3.4 Agent Configuration page in iMonitor.

  • Agent Information—Displays This frame This frame DS agent–specific information (including server name, IP address, time synchronization, and so on).

  • Partitions—Displays a list of existing partitions.

  • Replication Filters—Displays all filtered replicas configured for this specific DS agent.

  • Agent Triggers—Initiates the background processes listed in the main content frame.

  • Background Process Settings—Enables you to temporarily change the intervals for running background processes.

  • Agent Synchronization—Displays all inbound and outbound synchronization traffic for the specified DS agent.

  • Schema Synchronization—Displays all inbound and outbound schema synchronization traffic.

  • Database Cache—Enables you to configure and monitor the eDirectory database cache settings.

  • Login Settings—Enables you to customize the time between login updates or disable the queuing of login updates.

  • Trace Configuration—This button provides access to NetWare's DSTRACE eDirectory debug utility. DSTRACE was originally written as a debug utility for developers and it monitors replicas as they communicate with each other on the network. You can use DSTRACE for a variety of eDirectory management tasks (as discussed in Chapter 5, "NetWare 6 eDirectory Management").

  • Repair—Enables you to view problems with your eDirectory database and back up or clean them as needed. Remember that you must be logged in as Administrator (or Console Operator) to access this iMonitor tool.

  • DirXML Summary—Displays monitoring statistics for the DirXML drivers running in your eDirectory tree.

  • Reports—Enables you to configure and display eDirectory and server reports. This tool also enables you to run your own customized reports. These reports are very useful when you're preparing to run major eDirectory operations.

  • Search—Enables This frame you to search the eDirectory tree for objects, classes, and attributes.

  • TIP

You can click the Novell icon on the right side of the iMonitor navigation frame to gain access to the Novell Support Connection Web page. This page includes current server patch kits, updates, and product support.

    Assistant Frame Tools

The assistant frame occupies the left side of iMonitor's main page. This frame lists nine additional navigation aids that help you monitor and diagnose information in the Main Content frame. Furthermore, these tools are context sensitive, meaning their appearance is dictated by the state of the server you're monitoring. A brief description of the nine assistant frame tools (displayed on the left side of Figure 3.3) follows:

  • Agent Synchronization—Displays the number and type of replicas present on this server and the length of time that has passed since they were synchronized. In addition, you can view the number of errors for each replica type. If the Agent Synchronization Summary doesn't appear, there are no replicas you can view based on the security level you used while entering iMonitor.

  • Known Servers—Displays a list of servers present in the eDirectory database hosted by the iMonitor server. You can further filter this list by showing all servers in the eDirectory or only the servers in a given replica ring.

  • Schema—Displays a list of attribute and class definitions for the eDirectory schema.

  • Agent Configuration—Displays the Agent Configuration page shown in Figure 3.4.

  • Trace Configuration—Provides access to the Novell DSTRACE eDirectory debug utility by using the same link as the Trace Configuration button in the Navigation frame.

  • Agent Health—Displays a general summary of your server's health. See Figure 3.5 for more information.

  • Figure 3.5FIGURE 3.5 Agent Health page in iMonitor.

  • Agent Process Status—Displays one or more of the following background process status errors: schema synchronization (this process synchronizes modifications made to schema data among all replicas in eDirectory), obituary processing (this process uses ID numbers to ensure that name collisions do not occur during eDirectory operations), external reference/DRL (this process ensures that each external reference is accurate), limber (this process ensures that all server information is correct), and repair (this process removes a corrupted database and regenerates it based on the master replica).

  • Agent Activity—Displays eDirectory traffic patterns, verbs, and requests to help you identity potential system bottlenecks. In addition, the Agent Activity assistant enables you to identify which requests are attempting to obtain Data InfoBase (DIB) locks.

  • Error Index—Displays information about all errors found on eDirectory servers. Each error listed is linked to a description that contains an explanation, possible cause, and troubleshooting scenarios.

  • Real World

Although the default behavior of iMonitor is sufficient in most environments, you can modify this behavior by editing the NDSIMON.INI file located in the SYS:\SYSTEM directory. This text file contains parameter tags and preconfigured values. Two groups of parameters appear: one group applies to how the iMonitor executable runs and another group applies to specific features or pages.

All parameters appearing in the file have been commented out with the # character appearing at the beginning of the line of code. This forces iMonitor to use all default values for the parameters. To change the default behavior, you change the appropriate line of code and delete the # character.

Unless you know what you're doing, stick with the defaults.

That completes our lesson in NetWare 6 anytime, anywhere server monitoring via iMonitor. This Web browser tool provides you with a central portal for some of NetWare 6's most advanced server and eDirectory management tools, including DSTRACE, DSREPAIR, agent configuration, and the Novell Support Connection. Believe it or not, iMonitor is only the beginning. The real future of NetWare 6 advanced administration lies in a tool called iManager.

    Simon says, "Use iManager!"

Novell releases a new UDDI server | killexams.com real questions and Pass4sure dumps

Novell announced the availability to developers of a new Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) server that adds secure identity management to the UDDI standard, bolstering the security and simplifying the management of Web services registries.

Novell Nsure UDDI Server is based on Novell’s market-leading eDirectory software and is the first deliverable of the company’s Destiny roadmap for eDirectory.

Since its inception in 2000, adoption of the UDDI standard has been limited, partly because initial Web services deployments have been relatively small, but also because the standard lacks adequate provisions to ensure the security and management of registered services. With the delivery of a UDDI server based on eDirectory, Novell is attacking those limitations head on.

Angie Anderson, Novell vice president of Identity Services said: “Novell eDirectory is the foundation for secure identity management inside and outside the enterprise, so it’s a natural progression to extend those capabilities to Web services deployments, particularly as part of a key building block like UDDI. In doing so, Novell Nsure UDDI Server advances the state of the art for Web services-based development. Businesses don’t need to sacrifice the cost savings and simplicity of Web services in order to maintain tight control over access to company resources. With Novell Nsure UDDI Server, secure management of Web services is a reality today.”

Novell Nsure UDDI Server allows businesses to register Web services and make them available to internal or external users, while leveraging the security and management inherent in eDirectory. Users, whether publishing or consuming services, can be required to first authenticate to the directory and verify their identity. Equally important, those users, their access rights, and the registered Web services can be easily managed with eDirectory tools like Novell iManager, which are familiar to most network administrators.

“The value proposition for Novell Nsure UDDI Server, based on eDirectory, is simple,” Anderson said. “Whether they’ve deployed Web services yet or not, companies are already laying the infrastructure that will support future Web services adoption. So why not build that infrastructure on the most scalable, reliable and secure technology available?”

Novell Nsure UDDI Server will be available December 17 for free download. For more information, go to developer.novell.com/uddi.
